A lot of surfers like to offer surf lessons to tourists coming to Puerto Vallarta. It's a way of sharing their passion with others. However, there is a big difference between being able to push someone into a wave versus having the expertise to guide you beyond just standing up on a board.

I have 40 years of experiences as a surfer - which includes competing on the professional tour as a member of the Mexican National team. I also have been a full-time surf instructor and coach since 2010, which ensures that you will get the best surf experience that is tailored to your level and surf goals. You can check out my reviews and see that I have consistently been a top-rated surf instructor with Trip Advisor - awarded Trip Advisor Traveler's Awards for 2023 and 2024, on Google, and with Airbnb Experiences.

My philosophy of quality over quantity is to put you into the right conditions and send you on waves that I myself, would want to catch. And the feedback that I provide after each wave you catch, means that you will gain new skills, knowledge, and hopefully a passion for surfing.

The greatest joy I get out of being a surf instructor is when surf guests tell me that they are excited to continue their surf journey at another location or at their home break - because of the high-quality experience they had with me.
I take guests to surf breaks that match their experience level, comfort in the ocean, and the local swell forecast. I choose breaks that are uncrowded which makes it easier to catch waves for longer rides. I also recommend going in the morning because the ocean is glassier and easier to surf.
Sayulita is a great spot for surfing. However, it is very crowded and there are some pollution issues, especially in the summertime. Therefore, I offer lessons at surf breaks that are less crowded and more welcoming to beginners, so you feel safe and have enough space to ride quality waves.

Here are the types of surf experiences that we offer:

1. Surf Lesson. This is a surf lesson that is open to the public. All surf guests will ride a soft-top surfboard. All equipment including the soft-top surfboard is included in the price.

2. Private (1:1) Surf Lesson. This is for a guest who wants private surf instruction. All surf guests will ride a soft-top surfboard. All equipment including the soft-top surfboard is included in the price.

3. Private (group) Surf Lesson. This is a surf lesson that is only for your group. All surf guests will ride a soft-top surfboard. All equipment including the soft-top surfboard is included in the price.

4. Surf Coaching. This is for surfers who at a minimum can catch waves on your own and are looking to improve your technique. You will receive guidance and feedback on each wave. Depending on your experience level, you will either ride a soft-top surfboard or a fiberglass or epoxy board. All equipment including the soft-top surfboard is included in the price.. If you require a fiberglass or epoxy board, there is an additional charge  per surfer.

5. Surf Trip (inside the Bay of Banderas). This is for surfers who can surf independently and are seeking a 1/2 day trip (including transportation time). You will receive pointers on where to sit on the break and feedback on some (not all) of your waves. Most surfers bring their own board(s). However, if you require a rental, the cost is not included in the price. Surfboard rental, water taxi/boat transport, and lunch are NOT included in the cost.

6. Surf Trip (outside the Bay of Banderas). This is for advanced surfers who can surf open ocean and takes almost a full day (including transportation time). You will be given pointers on where to sit on the break and feedback on some (not all) of your waves. Most surfers bring their own board(s). However, if you require a rental, the cost is not included in the price. Surfboard rental, water taxi/boat transport, and lunch are NOT included in the cost.

7. Surf Camp. This is for beginners or surfers seeking surf coaching so you can accelerate your learning/improvement over multiple days.

Surf guests can pay after the surf lesson, surf coaching session, or surf trip is completed. I prefer that payment is made in Mexican pesos (cash). You can also pay in USD based on the daily exchange rate. If you don't have cash, I can take you to an ATM after the surf lesson.

However, if none of those methods work for you, please contact me directly for other payment options, which can include:

Yes, I have an expert team of surf instructors that I have personally trained to the highest standards. We are able to accommodate large groups in a safe way that ensures that everyone has a positive surfing experience.

Yes, but there is a non-surfer/observer fee of $25 USD per person for surf lessons, kid's lessons, and surf coaching.

If you are planning a surf trip inside the Bay of Banderas - there is a non-surfer/observer fee of $25 USD per person. If you are planning a surf trip outside the Bay of Banderas - the fee is $45 USD per person.

All surf guests who are taking a surf lesson will ride a soft-top surfboard. This is to ensure safety for you, other surfers in the ocean, and myself and our team of instructors. Soft-tops are easier to stand up on and ride the wave and we want to maximize your learning experience.

If you are seeking surf coaching - depending on your level, a fiberglass or epoxy surfboard might be appropriate for you. That is best discussed and determined based on your past surfing experience and what skills and techniques you are hoping to improve and the type of swell (waves) on the day of your surf experience.

The cost for an epoxy or fiberglass surfboard is not included in the price. However, you can choose from a wide selection of boards that fit your needs and get 20% off the public price from the surf shop with whom we partner.

Yes we do. We offer the same services and terms for paddleboarders as we do surfers. However, there is an additional fee for the paddleboard.
We don't offer our surfboards for rent. However, we can advise you on which surf shops do offer rentals depending on where you plan to surf.
